I keep meaning to do a regular posting of things that I run across that I love…because I always appreciate it when others share their new discoveries. For example, I like to find out what people’s favorite items at Trader Joe’s are. It always amazes me that there are all these fabulous choices that I just walk right by, not even seeing them, as I travel the rut I have made for myself in my daily habits. So…here are a few things I have recently come across that have added extra joy to my life lately, that I thought I would share.
Oh. My. Goodness. I am seriously crazy about this line of natural cleaners. I can’t decide which scent I like best, but I kid you not, it literally makes you want to clean. I told you it was crazy. I get the concentrate – when you realize how many bottles it makes, the cost is super reasonable – especially for such a high quality product that really works.
I am a total bibliophile, and despite my best intentions can’t seem to adapt to technology when it comes to reading…my Kindle sits, uncharged for months, loaded up with “books” that I intended to read. I am a very tactile person…kinetic in my learning style – and the turn of the page, the cover art, the weight of it even, are all part of my experience when I read a book. Aesthetics play a large role in most things in my life. There is, however, one exception that I do take the time to read online – Brain Pickings. A magical labyrinth of literary connections, it is the artful and lovingly curated blog of Maria Popova. But be warned….you may well get lost in it and have a tough time even wanting to look for an exit.
I may have listed this before, but it is one of the best podcasts out there IMHO. Krista Tippett interviews (a lost art in our world of sound bites) a wide range of people in various fields of study – from scientists to artists and everything in between. She provides a weekly, refreshingly in-depth interview that asks, in her own words “What does it mean to be human, and how do we want to live? We explore these questions in their richness and complexity in 21st-century lives and endeavors. We pursue wisdom and moral imagination as much as knowledge”. Check it out. You’ll be hooked.
I don’t know how I haven’t run across her music before this, but I absolutely love her music. Such gorgeous lyrics. And for an added treat, look up her interview with Krista Tippett on On Being (2014 I think). I really love the song “Every Little Bit of It” right now.
